The village of Choltice is located in the Pardubice region, approx. 90km east of Prague, 15 km west of Pardubice, 8 km south of Přelouč. Choltice lies at an average height of 242 meters above sea level and has just over 1,200 inhabitants. Choltice is the administrative center for 18 surrounding municipalities in terms of education, registry office and building office. The main feature of Choltice is the baroque castle, chapel and the adjacent nature reserve.
Primary school for 400 pupils with a recreation hall and a canteen. Includes drama, chess, ceramics, sports, language and tennis clubs. They organize sightseeing trips abroad, concerts, ski training, cultural, sports and social events for pupils and their parents.
Nursery school for 75 children with a dining room, offering speech therapy. cultural programs such as attending theatre performances, trips, exhibitions, concerts, Christmas celebrations and more.
The village is well catered for when it comes to daily services; there are a couple of pubs with the main one at the Castle, cafeteria & pastery shop, post office, a couple of clothes & textile shops, 2 convenience stores, a small supermarket, a shop that sells hardware, a flower shop, a farmer's centre where they sell fresh vegetables. There is also a kiosk selling newspapers and magazines and other necessities and a petrol station.
Within the Nature Park you will find a couple of tennis courts, beach volley ball pitch, a football field (with it's own football club), a multi-purpose sportshall (part of the school) offering other sports. In the summer a natural water swimming pool exists but it hasn't been used for a while. Approx. 5km away a very artificial lake exists where people go swimming - easy to reach by bike and car.
The protected Choltice forrested area is located between the villages of Choltice and Chrtníky, about 7 km southeast of the town of Přelouč. The natural landscape is part of the Castle grounds, with the current set up dating back to the first half of the 19th century. The park is rich in tree species and other faune and flora, The Struha stream flows through the reserve and feeds water to 3 ponds. Both the park and nature reserve are very popular with the locals as well as outsiders, and used for recreation. The Castle's cafe and restaurant is one of the most preferred locations for a bit to eat and a drink.
Various bus stops exist and there are busses that take you to the larger surrounding cities. During morning and evenings the trips are more frequent whilst during the day on average one bus an hour passes. There is also a small train station, that provides add on connections to the surroundings.
The village is blessed to have their own health center and general practitioners doctor for emergencies and small cases. Larger clinics can be found in Přelouč (9km distance) or Pardubice (15km distance).
Veterinarians are also close by in Přelouč / Heřmanův Městec and Pardubice.
